! SPOILERS! I imagine this is happening in some sort of post-war world, where people have to survive on their own without energy. If it isn't so, we are not told anything anyway. So an old woman and a young girl continuously try to kill a lonely young man in his small wooden house in the middle of the forest. The one that treated them fairly well, fed them, and could possibly protect them and be very useful. Yes, the younger one offered sex for all of this, and it was a mutual agreement, yet they continued to try killing him again. What was their plan - to live together in his house happily ever after? It wasn't about robbery, he clearly didn't have much of value, and the women had enough time to see that. Then, out of nowhere comes a bunch of ill-motivated men wearing masks (as if it still mattered in their world whether their faces would be seen or not) trying to kill everyone in the house, apparently, while destroying his crops. The three of them did not compete for anything in that forest, so what was the point of attacking them, with an intention to kill?
The story follows one man living alone on the wilderness where his peaceful life is interrupted one day by a mother and daughter who seek food and shelter. I enjoyed this Irish made movie. Are you serious? This was the best indie film I've seen in a long time. All the actors were great, even the fringe ones and that's not so easy with low budget films. I thought about the film for several days afterwards. I'd highly recommend this indie to anyone with a brain. Instead of trucks, cars & all the shenanigans there were sexual desires for the memorabilia & only two shells that could favor the one who wishes to get saved. Three people can never be two, and two people can never be one. For something that is about the descend into the end of civilization, Stephen Fingleton's tale of survival has a very powerful, at times haunting, message of trust and loyalty. The Survivalist uses it's silence to speak volumes about what needs to be kept at bay, and what should be kept locked in the closet. Fingleton makes looking at a graph of the end of times - scary. His stark look into a place where poison & traps are something out of a creature in a dilemma is painful.
