It is a bit off putting and a little too overused, but thankfully none of the scenes last too long. There's plenty of cliches littering this film, but its all part of the fun. The premise is, of course, simple. A group of teenagers... okay, you already know where this is going. Anyway Jason is as angry as ever, and this time he's out for a record number of hits. There are quite a few gory kills in this movie, and some very inventive. This sequel is perhaps best known for the film that Jason gets his iconic look. Gone is the pillow case mask with eye hole cut in it, replaced by the iconic hockey mask (very willingly supplied by one of Jason's many victims). This is really where this franchise took off, for better or worse. It's worth noting that this film was originally done in 3D, hence the many obvious objects being poked and thrown straight to camera.

Where is Paul? This is a mystery that has baffled people for years. If Paul had been murdered there would have been 9 victims. Steve Miner, the director of Parts II and 3, has a cameo in Part 3 as the newscaster, ala Hitchcock. There is speculation that Paul did die in a cut scene from Part II where his body could be seen in Jason's lair, BUT if this had been the case why not alter the reporter's dialogue for Part 3? Worse, she establishes the trend of somewhat dull and uninspired virginal heroines (albeit she and her boyfriend are implied to have been sexually active in the past). The supporting cast is really the best in this film with the most memorable character being Shelly (Larry Zerner). Shelly is the worst stereotype of nerds in that he's sexist, entitled, suffering from all manner of self-esteem issues, and kind of a jerk. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, he's easily one of the most memorable characters in the franchise. Also, entertaining as hell. He brings some much-needed levity to the story in his vain attempts to get Vera Sanchez (Catherine Parks) into bed. The movie was filmed with the intent of showing it in 3D and there's a number of oddball moments which were clearly meant to be "thing leaps out at audience. " The movie doesn't really suffer from their absence, though. The confrontation with Jason in the barn remains probably the best of the Final Girl confrontation moments, though, whatever my feelings on Chris.
