His rival - Caine 607 - was among the first of the genetically enhanced soldiers. I like how one of the themes of Soldier was, "experience beats raw talent". Todd got his ass kicked by Caine in physical contests, like long-distance running, firearms accuracy, and fighting-while-hanging-from-the-ceiling. But when it came to an actual battle, Todd - a veteran of multiple wars - single-handedly wiped the floor with the platoon of test tube babies, none of whom had been in a real fight before. It was actually pretty damn funny to see how stupid the enhanced soldiers were made to look. I guess when the government eggheads engineered the perfect soldier, they neglected to make them smart.

La descrizione dei vari personaggi è, come un certo cinema francese impone, tremendamente lenta seppur fitta di dialoghi e avvenimenti che aiutano a capire molte dinamiche. I meccanismi di incontro/scontro tra i vari membri della dinastia Valadine non sono dissimili a quelli descritti in tante altre fiction dove varie generazioni di una stessa stirpe sono a confronto fra loro, seppur stavolta trasportati in un contesto differente e in qualche modo più stuzzicante rispetto ai soliti noti. Il problema è che neanche la sparatoria finale, durante la mostra dedicata ad Elise, ad opera del guardiano del cimitero dove la lapide alla sua memoria ricorda la sua vita senza la certezza della sua morte, riesce a porre, a fine puntata, un punto interrogativo tanto grande da incuriosire lo spettatore e a portarlo a sorbirsi un'altra puntata di una serie televisiva che, nonostante le sue scene hot, è solo caldamente noiosa.
There's some smart writing here, although the script does once again leave questions unanswered. Perhaps those questions will be resolved in the sequel that this ending leaves ample room for. The directors (Horvath and Hallam) also prove that they have exceptional eyes for setting up a scene for maximum creep factor. They did a good job of mimicking the atmosphere of the first movie. The series needs to work on how to bring out the best from their actors and not just the (admittedly effective) blocking. The series has had great raw material to work with twice now, and are still getting some woodenness from actors who have proven capable of more in other projects.
